It's incredible... We had this class about projectmanagement where the lecturer told us that there's hardly any chance to work as a software engineer in Germany because software engineers in east-european countries such as slovakia would be a lot cheaper, a lot more motivated and they would produce equal quality software...
A few days later there was a report about a computer-game made by an east-european team of software-engineers. The guy who presented it was totally enthusiastic about the enthusiasm of that team.
So the lecturer was probably right... She told us that - if we wanted to work as a software-engineer - we should learn an east-european language and work there. wtf!? I'll probably have to try my luck in the UK, the USA, Canada or Australia...
However, there was one thing that I noticed was totally true. Germans are so unmotivated and unenthusiastic. Every month there are projects that we can do to earn bonus-points and every month it gets more interesting. And what do 99% of all of the students do!? They program it so that it matches the minimum specifications. "Why should I do any extra-work!? It doesn't give me any extra-points!" Hello!? It's not only fun - It's also great practice and a good way to show what you're able to do!? The best result of this month's project will most probably be used by our professors! But nooo.... "Hey! We could use the [crappy] user-interface that our professor used to explain a couple of things to us! Ok - It looks crappy but it serves it's purpose!" It was the same with last month's project (TicTacToe)... "Why should we program an unbeatable AI!? Nobody said that it'd be required! And why should we code it the elegant way when we can also produce unreadable, unextendable and potentially buggy code!? It's so much easier!".
...just to name a few examples.
No wonder that no big german company wants german software-engineers anymore...

Our logic-professor went totally nuts.... During one of the last classes he said that he wondered why politicians don't introduce Esperanto as the official first language everywhere in the world! Isn't that weird!? He said it would be so much better because it's a totally made up language that follows strict and easy rules without any exceptions - so it's easy to learn, universal, not bound to a country, easy for a computer to parse and it would improve global communications. Weirdo...

I applied for a job as a studentic business consultant. *g* Y'know - Looking important, talking to important people, getting a really important-looking entry in my curriculum and earning some money with it. 8-) :P My chances to get that job are really good. Until today no applicant was ever rejected. The only problem could be a lack of free time this summer...

Last of all - I'm considering to work as a tutor for the "Introduction to Computer Science" class at my university to earn a few extra bucks.
Fuv!
