I remember when I was in high school and I used to update everyday and everyday I had something new and clever to rant about.
I used to write paragraphs, even pages of things that seemed so important to me at the time.
I feel like I've lost whatever "zest" I used to write with (not that my writings were ever particularly zesty, mind you)
Still, I'm struggling.
Anyhow, it's been awhile and while I felt like I had so much to update on, I've lost my train of thought, so I'll start with the move.
It's October 8th.
Tomorrow will mark two weeks that I've been in the new place.
It hasn't been perfect but it's really starting to grow on me.
The first weekend was hectic.
We couldn't get the electric turned on until a few days later so we had to move everything in the heat.
Oh, Cory also managed to bring a few roaches with him so in the meantime we've bombed, sprayed, dusted and done almost everything you can do to get rid of them and it appears, as of this moment, we are finally roach free.
Thank the fucking lord.
Not that I'm particularly squemish.
Lizards and frogs and most bugs don't bother me all that much but his apartment was absolutely infested.
It's a cute little place and day by day, it's becoming home.
The first night I just laid in "our" (trying to get used to saying that) bed and it just felt bizarre.
I felt like in a few days, I should be going back up to Mom's to do my "check-in."
Then, I started to feel overwhelmed.
In trying to reduce my own personal clutter, I had thrown out much of what made my room mine and of course Cory didn't get rid of nearly as much stuff as I had hoped so our place looks like a bachelo rpad.
I'm still working on getting our room to look a little less like his and little more like mine but by choosing the linens in the bathroom and the kitchen, I've managed to counteract all the black and dark wood of the living room and kitchen making the entire place seem a little more like "home."
Electric finally was turned on the monday after we moved in, and the AC crapped out.
That was fixed promptly.
We also needed to have the fridge replaced since the fan was shot.
That was also replaced pretty quickly but now, the fridge is on this awkward angle because the outlet that it was supposed to be plugged into, blew itself up. Yay.
But I love everything else.
I love the carpet in the bedrooms and the pretty tile in the living areas.
I love my dark purple bath towels and the bright red of the apples on the pot holders in the kitchen.
I love my cheap 12-cup coffee maker (Yes, I've started drinking coffee at home to offset all of the money I've been spending on Dunkin Donut's Caramel Iced Coffees. Yikes.)
I also love my slightly worn-in but very spacious back porch which overlooks a beautiful backyard and massive oak tree.
What I love most of all is that we're not renting some cookie cutter apartment.
Our place actually has personality.
One of these days, I'm going to buy a huge canvas and some paints and I'm going to set up an eisel and claim my porch.
Oh by the way, I'm also 21.
Yay.
You knew that I wouldn't really be posting much about it but I will update just a little.
On my birthday, Cory, Mom and her pseudo boyfriend Mike, from across the street, went to the shooting range and I shot a sig P250 9mm handgun.
Holy fuck.
It was scary but awesome.
Otherwise, a few days later, Cory and I went to Sonny's where I ordered my first alcoholic drink: A strawberry dacquiri.
I know just slightly girlie but I haven't really had a chance to take advantage of being 21.
I have a bottle of Vodka in the freezer that I've barely touched since I moved in.
I'm not doing this whole being 21 thing like I should be.
What else?
Oh Madelaine moves down in less than a month.
November 4th, I will be flying up to New York to drive my sister down to Florida. The other bedroom will be hers.
I'm thinking of installing a tension rod and a curtain so that she'll have just a bit more privacy when she's using her vanity.
Oh how I hope that she likes it down here.
Oy.
Oh, and school's going well.
Mhmmm.
