Liberal legacy: billions paid to illegal aliens falsely claiming EITC benefits

One of the legacies of liberals stacking the immigration deck is that millions of your taxpayer dollars have been sent to illegal aliens falsely claiming EITC benefits.

That is, a programed designed to benefit working poor citizens is being abused by the millions of illegal aliens who have swarmed into the country over the past two decades.
From 1985 to 2006, EITC payments grew from $2.1 billion to $44.4 billion, or by an eye-popping 2,014 percent. Total federal income tax revenues rose by 217 percent over that same period. Similarly, the number of returns claiming the EITC rose from 6.4 million to 23.0 million-an increase of 255 percent-over a period when the total number of federal income tax returns increased by 36 percent.

I can't believe that there are still people who claim that illegal aliens are "net" taxpayers! That's like claiming shoplifters improve a company's profit margin.

Of of the saddest legacies of this abuse of the immigration process is that it prevents an increase in legal immigration, which does provide benefits for our country.

ETA: One of the puzzling things about the expansion during President Bush's time in office is that the poverty rate didn't budge. One possible explanation lies in the flip-side of the above numbers. The number of new people on poverty has a strong correlation with the number of illegal aliens entering the country each year.
