Facts are stubborn things

In the case of history, facts are also embarrassing for the Democrats.

Jeffrey Lord points out the inconvenient facts of the history of the Democrat Party. Facts that the Democrats seemed to have misplaced when it comes to retelling their own history.

Among the missing facts:
* There is no reference to the number of Democratic Party platforms supporting slavery. There were 6 from 1840-1860.

* There is no reference to the number of Democratic presidents who owned slaves. There were 7 from 1800-1861

* There is no reference to the number of Democratic Party platforms that either supported segregation outright or were silent on the subject. There were 20, from 1868-1948.

Democrat apologists will no doubt mutter words like "southern" and "conservatives" in an attempt to mislead the easily misled.

What Democrats really, really hope everyone forgets is the fact that the Republican Party was born out of the anti-slavery movement.

It's too bad the Republicans do just a poor job of retelling their own history. Many people live their whole lives under the mistaken belief that Republicans not only oppose civil rights but that they always have.

How about a new motto for the party: "The Republican Party: Born to Protect your Rights"? It certainly carries more meaning than "Grand Old Party". :P
