If you've seen the most recent twist on reality TV you have enjoyed watching people display just how much they've forgotten since fifth grade. Hypotenuse? Is that a surgical implement? Periodic table of the elements? Is that from Star Wars?
Recently my fifth grade daughter has had the pleasure of being the only one in her class to raise her hand when her teacher asked if there was anyone who thought there "wasn't a war being fought for oil". She was also the only one in her class who questioned Al Gore's use of energy and his "carbon footprint" after being assigned the task of using his absurd "An Inconvenient Truth" as a classroom lesson. And once again she was the only one in her class who questioned the Church of Climate Change's position on global warming, correctly pointing out that the Church has failed to provide a consistent model that can be verified and repeated (like dropping an apple to demonstrate gravity), that the Earth was much warmer during the reign of the dinosaurs, that volcanic activity far outpaced human contributions to "greenhouse gases" and that (I'm so proud of her for this) Al Gore was a hypocrite for expecting her family to do with a lot less when he was living in a "huge mansion that wasted a gabillion tons of energy" and "flew around in jets".
It is nice to now that my fifth grader is smarter than Al Gore.
