Dan Rather is finally leaving network news...as a news anchor, at least.
After pimping for various liberal causes for over two decades, the man who will forever be known as one of the primary figures of "memogate" has confirmed that
he will be leaving CBS news in March of 2005.
Rather denied that the forgery scandal had anything to do with his decision:
Everybody will have their own thoughts about this, but ... this was a separate decision apart from that.
Rather will continue on at CBS as an investigative reporter for both editions of "60 Minutes".
Hopefully his first assignment will be to figure out how he was "tricked" into using forged documents in an attempt to smear President Bush shortly before the election.
If CBS wants to recover from a legacy of three decades of liberal bias they will redo their news broadcasts in the image of Fox News: fair and balanced-allowing the viewers make up their own minds.
