Kofi Annan's actions have become increasingly bizarre. First he declared that he thought the liberation of Iraq was "illegal", despite UN resolutions authorizing any member nation to force Iraq into compliance with the cease-fire agreement from the 1990 Gulf War.
Now he is continuing his attacks on the United States, declaring that the world is "less safe" since the liberation of Iraq.
What could be driving Annan to make such statements?
How about this: the organization he runs is knee-deep in scandal. It is now obvious that Saddam was bribing UN member nations to look the other way while he looted the oil for food program. At the center of the scandal is Annan's own son. What better way to distract the world from the scandal than by attacking the United States...the very country that happens to be conducting the only serious investigation of the scandal.
Annan is already part of the problem via his attempts to obstruct justice. One wonders how deeply he is involved in the oil for food scandal. Was he a willing partner to the influence peddling?
Only a thorough investigation will determine that. Meanwhile Annan should step aside as Secretary-General of the UN. If he refuses to step aside he should be removed by the US, UK and other nations who didn't participate in the oil for food scandal.
The UN, of course, is a failed organization. Our continued participation in it only perpetuates the farce. The sooner we expose how deeply the scandal runs and how decayed the framework of the UN has become, the better.
