Fiscally "responsible" Nancy Pelosi no longer Speaker of the House

Jan 04, 2011 18:20

Nancy Pelosi promised to bring fiscal responsibility to Congress. Instead, the debt grew by 60% while she was leading the House.

She also promised to "clean up the swamp" for ethics. Instead a steady stream of (Democrat) scandals plagued Congress.

Quite a dismal record, isn't it?

Adding to the legacy of disconnect (witness her claims early on election day in 2010 that Democrats were going to win big) is her claim that she has "no regrets" about her time in office.

On behalf of America, let me say "good riddance" to one of the worst ever to hold office as Speaker of the House. Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Shame about losing that ginormous office and private plane, isn't it? Now you're one of the "little people".

Well, for privileged Washington insiders, that is.

ETA: The reality gap is as strong as ever. In her last press conference she told this whopper:
At her final press conference as House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said, "Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go."

I don't know what is more sad: the fact that she believes this or that her supporters do.
