well, i wasn't going to post again, but i had to tell you...
for the first time in my 17, and in my father's 40-something, years of living....we both witness a (not-so) amazing celetial event.
Mercury.
I had ventured out to the playground to swing for a while, and found myself enjoying it far too much and staying out for nearly an hour: enough time for the sun to set and the street lights to turn on. i watched the very first star appear in the sky (and wished on it too); i watched all the other stars appear, but one was of special interest. a bright, what i presumed to be planet, was shining on the horizon. instinct said it was Venus. which i would have been happy with, had there not been another, nearly as bright, planet-like light shining right next to it. i observed them for a while, and determined that it was not a plane; went in to get my father, who dragged out his telescope to the sidewalk where we spent about half an hour looking at the stars.
Turns out, it was Venus...and Mercury!! i may sound like a geek, but man it was soooooo cool to see Mercury...^_^ we also looked at Saturn and found about 5 of its moons...but that's pretty normal. it got really hazy really fast, so we packed up and came inside. but man, how cool is that??
mercury....
