Now; the ponds that dot the zoo property ... were also full of ginormous koi fish, some of whom by now are at least three feet long. Sensing an opportunity to cash in on the koi, the zoo put up little vending machines all over the place that dispense handfuls of food pellets. I swear to god the fish can hear the crank turning, and will show up at the nearest railing, blooping expectantly at whoever happens to be standing there and doing their best to appear starving and desperate. And they weren’t the only ones who learned to associate the sound with the imminent arrival of food. The Canada geese knew a good deal when they saw one, and had long since ceased to migrate anyway. They formed roving gangs of thug-geese and staked out their turf around the vending machines, ready to mug anyone with pocket change. Picture yourself as a small child squaring off with a bird fully prepared to strip search you while standing on your feet and yelling “HWAAAAAKK!!” in your face. It’s traumatizing to you and deeply hilarious to your parents.

In an email to supporters, Levant - who is currently facing a formal criminal complaint alleging that he and his outlet have wilfully promoted hatred against Muslims - expressed gratitude for the credibility bestowed upon his company. “I’m grateful to them for giving me the platform,” he wrote, “because while The Rebel has a massive audience of ‘severely normal’ Canadians, The Globe and Mail is the newspaper of record for the Canadian establishment.”
He said he was “delighted” that the paper “asked me to write an op-ed detailing how the Liberal government has systematically been censoring conservative journalists, including us at The Rebel.”

My answer is that we will never agree to concede the identity of the State of Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people, that it is not the Holocaust that underlies the legitimacy of the establishment of the State of Israel, but the perseverance of the Jewish people for thousands of years in adhering to its vision of the return to Zion, and to realize it through tremendous efforts, as stated in Israel’s Proclamation of Independence: “Impelled by this historic and traditional attachment, Jews strove in every successive generation to re-establish themselves in their ancient homeland. In recent decades, they returned in their masses. Pioneers, defiant returnees and defenders, they made deserts bloom, revived the Hebrew language, built villages and towns, and created a thriving community.”
From an international perspective, let us not forget that the right to a Jewish state was granted by the League of Nations not in wake of the Holocaust, but 28 years earlier

Born in Canada, it wasn’t until the late 1990s when Gunter moved to the US and started working in Kansas that she had a “political awakening” - quote marks her own. A patient had a medical condition that was deteriorating rapidly because of her pregnancy. Except, abortions had just been made illegal; the hospital’s attorney said if Gunter performed one she would be fired. So, she called the legislator who wrote the law, who breezily told her to do what she thought best. She was furious. Furious at the man applauding a law in public while deferring to her expertise in private, furious that she’d have to defend herself if she’d been arrested and furious at the knowledge that women will die if these laws remain.

I tell my students that they have to level up to move forward in my classes. Maybe I should label each assignment type with a video-game label: "This assignment's difficulty is low-level quests/grinding for points. This one is an area boss. This one is a sub-boss. This one is a big boss." Hmmm.

The problem with PBEs [Personal Belief Exemptions], of course, is that they can be abused, and, when antivaccine misinformation spreads, provide a mechanism by which vaccination rates plummet, leading to local populations with low vaccination rates. That’s exactly what happened in California and is happening in Texas now, so much so that I not-infrequently say that when the next big US measles outbreaks happen, they’ll probably happen in Texas. In California before SB 277, for instance, although statewide the percentage of children with parents claiming the personal belief exemption remained low, there were schools where exemption rates climbed as high as 58% (one kindergarten reported a 76% exemption rate) serving as incubators for outbreaks of measles and other contagious diseases. After all, unvaccinated children have a 23-fold higher risk of contracting pertussis and a 35-fold higher risk of contracting measles than vaccinated children. Unfortunately, non-vaccinating populations tend to cluster, and their refusal of vaccines leads to there being areas with large pockets of unvaccinated children, ripe for outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.

And then I knew...that I had to ring [my daughter] Becky, to let her know, 'cause I couldn't have that... I couldn't not let her know...that her children were dead. And... I don't know, Aiden just, Aiden just dialled the number, and don't ask me why, but we got through. And I told her.And she said, "Beck, they're all gone." And I'm like, "Gone? What do you mean, they're gone? Gone where?" She goes, "No, Beck, they're all gone, they're dead, the house has burnt down, I couldn't get them out. They're gone."
And she screamed and screamed and screamed. And then the phone just went dead.

Left-wing anti-Semites often attack Jews for standing out too much, targeting Zionists’ “politically incorrect” devotion to Israel. At the same time, right-wing anti-Semites often attack Jews for standing out too little, treating Jews as foreign agents infiltrating society from within by masquerading as “normal.” In the latest proof that anti-Semitism remains the most plastic hatred - endurable, artificial, yet somehow eminently pliable - the far left accuses Jews of enjoying “white privilege” while the far right accuses Jews of threatening white purity.

Are mass violence and catastrophes the only forces that can seriously decrease economic inequality? To judge by thousands of years of history, the answer is yes. Tracing the global history of inequality from the Stone Age to today, Walter Scheidel shows that inequality never dies peacefully. Inequality declines when carnage and disaster strike and increases when peace and stability return. The Great Leveler is the first book to chart the crucial role of violent shocks in reducing inequality over the full sweep of human history around the world.
-- Walter Scheidel, from The Great Leveler, quoted at Lawyers, Guns, and Money

Don’t bring an Esrog [citron] to a Lulav [palm frond bundle] fight
What do you mean? The etrog is a ranged single-use weapon, the lulav is for close quarters. Bring both. Funnily enough, I can source the [G]emara for this one - There was a Chasmonean king, Alexander Yannai, who the populace pelted with their Etrogim in anger. Although the etrogim proved to be painful rather than deadly, according to some sources, the people were so enraged that they actually started ripping stones from the Altar to throw once they ran out of etrogim, he barely got away alive.
