I forgot why for two years all I listened to was Ani Difranco. Today, I remembered. After the "wisdom" of alternative, and the "freedom" of emo, I still remember my personal roots in pop/folk/funk with Mrs. Difranco. She just knows how life is. She just really does, unlike anyone else can say it--she really knows what's up, without excessive bitching or too repetitive chorus's... and she's so political (or anti-political, for that matter), yet far from a philosophical anarchist. It sounds confusing, but it all just falls together when she plays the silly conventionalism of everyday human life so incredibly on that crazy 'ol gee-tar. *breathe.. breathe.. so good...*
On an even better note (i know, could it get better?!) my book inspiration hit me again today. It's already forming chapters in my head. It really is, and I'm pumped. So with this in mind, I remembered that I was on the 'poor kid' list at Salem, so I decided to screw the system, because it all gets deleted anyway. And mainly because it's through the school, and not federal funding (which would be mean to steal from). So I got 7 new books. I know right!? Doesn't that rock!? I got:
9 Stories ~ J.D. Salinger
Four Plays ~ Ibsen
On the Road ~ Kerouac
Death of a Salesman ~ Miller
The Stranger ~ Camus
Things fall apart ~ Achebe
A Moveable Feast ~ Hemmingway
They're all books I've wanted to read either for enjoyment, or because I feel that maybe I should have read them a while ago. Like Miller, I never read that anywhere, and I think that I should have. I also got a text for school which has every major influencial epic ever written, so I'm pumped. I'm so MADLY in love with this concept of sitting in free time and reading. And now, I'll have the books to do it with.
... and it's a good thing. I was about to start harry potter over again. lol.
Have a really great day! And a note to claire--hope all is going well and you're enjoying the weather! :)
