Snape used to fancy & visit Lily Potter. During those visits Petunia took quite a shine to him, but was rejected.
In HP 5, Aunt Petunia says that she knows what Dementors are, because "that dreadful boy told her". The assumption is that she referred to Harry's parents, but that is only Harry's jumping to conclusions- I think the "dreadful boy" might well have been Snape.
We might also find out who the howler was from which Petunia received
