"Before punk, we stood on the sideline, forever, craving the spotlight that was searching out the blonde standing next to us. Stardom was destined for waif women like Stevie Nicks or mournful ballad babes who'd learned 'the truth at seventeen that life was meant for beauty queens ...'
Then came Siouxie Sioux and Poly Styrene and Lydia Lunch and suddenly it was fashionable to look like the morning after, on the night before.
Oh the liberation of wearing your scars as body art. I dyed my hair jet black, teased it into submission and then invested in a Derwent pencil box of eyeliners. I gashed all my clothes, let my cellulite breathe, and took myself off to the Trade Union Club to see Nick Cave, Box the Jesuit and early Hunters and Collectors."
I'm so relieved; I was really worried about not being able to pull off creating my outline for my presentation on "Race Without Color" but I did it in 30 minutes. Now I have to create a powerpoint to go alongside it. I'm asking again, if anybody is aware of pamphles or brochures that attempt to deconstruct race ideology please let me know.
I'm sorry to the couple of people I was rude ot last night. I was upset and so I drank and that made me more upset I suppose. But I'm in a good mood now. I'm a few pages into reading my 33 page article called "Riot Grrrl: Revolutions from Within". I really like it, and it's even styled sort of like a zine. It's a collection of various lterary styles telling what riot grrls are; from comics and from interviews, to articles and a manifesto. I then have to read a piece called "Punk Subculture in Mexico and the AntiGlobalization Movement: A report from the Front". This Sociological Colleciton is pretty cool; next I'm going to read an ethnography on the straight edge culture.
i'm coughing up my lungs here in school. AAaahhh
So I'm gonna go read I guess, then I go home clean up my tapes on the floor that I slung off my bed last night in an angry manner; and then go to work, come back home and do chores. My parents will be home tomorrow. No time to work on the label tonight. On the good side, I randomly found a box of blank tapes (type I) that I'll record onto. I figure since type I is only really good for spoken word stuff, I'll sell these tapes for like 15cents because it's not going to capture the sound of instruments so well.
