I'm on the cusp of being in the swing of things. It's the second week into classes, the point where routine hasn't been established, but I see it coming & I'm excited to have that comfort.
The other art students have been great & I'm starting to feel more at home in my little studio (despite the old woman that sits across from me who wears a red sweatband across her forehead & grins like a cheshire cat while she paints, very very frightening). Last Monday Rorey (who, along with Shan, has been really friendly & helpful, introducing me to everyone & showing me around the studios) did a performance piece. He wore hand-crafted goat-like horns, a jock strap, white body paint, & patent leather stiletto boots while walking down the main road & collecting leaves & things. It made me feel very at home. If that makes sense? I think it does.
Yesterday, I went along with some classmates from painting to two gallery openings. One for the University & one it town at the Tathem (where I'm looking into getting an internship, nicey-nice). Then, I went with Noor & Marie to see 'Bluebeard,' a student theatrical production. The blocking was absolutely fabulous. I was totally mesmerized by their movement. The plot involved a man killing his wives & hiding them in the cupboards & his wives were played by other men who wore dresses, YAY!
Last weekend made me feel as if I'd truly arrived. We went on a canopy tour, swinging on zip lines through the trees way, way up in the mountains. Then hiked at a nearby waterfall. Lovely.
Party in our kitchen! Before the Club. This is where I spend most of my time cooking & talking & eating & talking & cooking.
Making my way to Butterflies for Africa.
Noor made a friend that day.
We went to the Jazz bar, but there was no jazz--tragic!
But Christine won't let it get her down.
Aquariuming :)
...Aquariuming part 2.
Me on gecko duty. Someone's gotta chase the little buggers out before bedtime.
Me, Jasmine & Denise, suited up to swing through the trees!!
The view from the forest canopy... yup, my breath was taken.
Howick waterfall: up-close, personal & powerful. The mist soaked us to the bone.
Alas, another Braai!
& Lori was my stylist for the evening.
Safari time! Dooodododo dodo dodo, cant touch this.
