By definition, one doesn't do voluntary work for financial rewards. To be thanked occasionally or to appear in the credits is nice, but not essential. After all, I choose to contribute because I think the project is worth contributing to and seeing it develop and grow and knowing that I am a part of it is rewarding in itself, and there is very little else that I'm doing lately in which I can see any value.
A recent comment by one of the de facto leaders of the project, which I can't quote or link to if I want to maintain my anonymity, sounded belittling and dismissive and made me think that my contributions are not appreciated. I sent him email asking if that was what he meant to say. Probably a mistake, but if I'm right I have nothing to lose anyway, or rather I've already lost it.
