I've gotten a few "West African" responses when I email Craigslist people:
ex. "Thanks for the email. My name is Fred Williams,I own the 1 bedroom apartment at 16 East 98th Street,East Harlem,New York NY 10029.I want you to know that i was transfered to West Africa so my family and i moved down here hence we decided to give the apartment out for rent. We are looking for a responsible person that can take very good care of it as we are not after the money for the rent but want it to be clean and well taken care of by whosoever will rent it.We expect the person to take care of the apartment as if it were his or her own.Presently We are here in West Africa in our new house.I personally wanted to Sell the apartment in question but we decided to put it out for rent since my wife love the place so much.If you could promise us that you will take very good care of the house, then you can send an email with the following informations."
But evidently, Africa + internet = hints of Nigerian money email scam, so people pick a more "respectable country."
ex. "i work with AMERICA & BRITISH TOBACCO
COMPANY , here in United Kingdom, i was newly transfered here, and i could
not stay in the apartment, thats why i'm renting it out.
The Apartment is available for 900 Dollars per month including all the utilities, which i think is not too much, i just need someone
with an open heart, love and clean to occupy the
Apartment and put all my worries off concerning the
maintenance of the apartment for now. Since i am not
residing there for now.But i'm
afraid person of your ages, can you maintain, and
always tidy up my apartment for me the way you will be
moving into it? "
1st off. People in UK would hopefully use better English
2nd off. When everyone uses the same sentences, excuses, and promise a ridiculously nice apartment, I know its a scam.
I've emailed approximately 80 people in 4 days and gotten 2 viewings set up.
