Lily is on her way back from the Library, where she was finishing an essay on Vanishing spells for Transfiguration. As the entrances to both Ravenclaw and Gryffindor tower are on the seventh floor, she isn't surprised to run into Rose and James.

She strokes the puppy's head, then looks up and notices Rose's red eyes. Concerned, she poses the obvious question:
