I came to the realization during a discussion of Animal Crackers in my Lit and Film class tonight that I've had a crush on Groucho Marx since I was seven years old. I think my seven year-old self had impeccable, if quirky, taste.
(Also, a discussion of the Marx Brothers is not complete without talking about Henry Jenkins III's work on the vaudville aesthetic. Jenkins has become a big name in fan and media studies lately because he kind of predicted the rise of internet fandom culture. I mention this because it meant that the word fandom got thrown out by my prof tonight and my head kind of exploded.)
