Fragments from Between Men: English literature and male homosocial desire by Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick

13.04.13

EKS is a pretty good writer, readable and clear in her message, at least, which is more than you can say for many. Her comparisons to Adrienne Rich's lesbian spectrum to the male homosocial spectrum, which is not, in fact, a spectrum, because male homophobia is necessary for capitalism and masculinity to be mantained in our society (although not in general, ie see the Greeks, who had an spectrum that went from 'men priviledging men' to 'men fucking men'). She makes a point to note the different situations lesbians and gays are in and how this has already caused frisson in the GLTB movement.
