Fanfic: 'The Presence of fire' by RivkaT . [Clark/Lex] . [N7]

12.000 words. I have read and listened to this story at least thrice now and I love it, it’s angsty and gorgeous. An epic in barely 12.000 words. Except for the ending, which makes no sense to me [SPOILERS, plus, won’t make sense without reading it first]

since after years of resentment and assassination attempts Clark shows up in president Lex’s office and asks for forgiveness for doing brain surgery on him without his consent or knowledge to modify his psychopathic behaviour. This while they were lovers and Clark had Lex wrapped around his little finger, too. And Lex, who during the course of the story (when he’s no longer brain damaged and thus, has as much capacity to be a caring human being as ever) was set on killing Clark for what he did, not merely keeping away from his ex who instead of, say, breaking up with him, or even killing him for being evil, decided to modify his personality. And then, Clark shows up, it’s all hand-wavy about the moral issues, Lex admits Clark’s actions resulted in him being ready to save the planet when it was invaded by aliens, and that’s it, Lex folds! WTF. How is a healthy person meant to be able to forgive that shit? If Lex was brain damaged, at least that could serve as an explanation. The fact that Clark didn't even feel bad about it was also an enormous turn-off.
Now, this is written excellently, to the point I ended up wondering if I was the one mistaken but after re-readings and careful consideration I have decided to hold on to my opinion.
