On this second read I loved this even more (I graded it half a point higher), the love that permeates everything they do. Not only Joe’s love for Nick but for his whole family. The sense of connectedness and understanding that comes over Joe, someone who’s not given to self-reflection, is wonderful. Like suddenly the path to follow is clear (because he’s dreaming the future but also because what’s in store makes the present make sense, makes it mean what it should instead of just be). It's hard to find a quote that really captures that because it’s in all these tiny but significant details that you can really tell.
♬ Nick pulls back. His face is red, his hair a mess, his mouth swollen. Joe loves every single cell of him so much he thinks he might drown in it, and he holds his breath until Nick says, "We've got to christen our house, right? What room would be unconventional?"
