Comments: This has a past Fraser/Kowalski that's very relevant to the Rays relationship, when we first get to the Rays is to see Kowalski having a breakdown and more or less begging Vecchio to, first, beat the shit out of him, or, second, fuck the shit out of him. Vecchio refuses, saying instead he will be his friend (this sounded a bit weird to me but I will maybe believe Vecchio has matured enough in Vegas to do it), he promises Kowalski it'll get better eventually. In Growing Pains we meet a Francesca that knows what she wants (babies) and gets it. In Restoration RayK wakes up one morning and he realises he hasn't been thinking of Fraser so much lately and that when he does it doesn't hurt so badly. When The Borders Bleed explores how thin the borders between Ray and The Bookman are, especially when the post-Vegas Ray is more into fucking his old double than the old Ray ever was. This part is a brilliant analysis of Ray through, of all things, anal sex. Hot and fascinating. And a bit fucked up, too, because, really, The Bookman. In One Hundred and Eighty the Rays are domestic and blissful together. Then, in the The Power Of Grace, Fraser gives Kowalski a call and Ray fucks up spectacularly by leaving in the middle of the night, Vecchio refuses to let him freeze to death, though (quietly heartbreaking). In A Passing State of Mind things get better and the Rays get some clousure.
It's not always as good but the angsty bits pack quite a punch :)
