Comment:PV has so many inconsistencies on so many levels that one's left looking around, wondering where to start criticizing: the characterization that changes to serve the plot? The characterization that's OCC to get fluffy (I stopped reading then, I thought that 73.000 words was more than enough leeway) or the Babelfish translations of the few phrases in Spanish that, of course, don't even need to be in Spanish. And stil there was something that made me read as far as I did, that something might have been the matelot thing.
c With Jack, he had talked, had joked, sung and laughed. They'd been there to offer help when the other needed it. And they'd shared their bodies. Was that what matelot meant? A friend so close that he could also take care of the most intimate needs? Without embarrassment, without hesitation and without anything but reciprocation asked in turn? It was an elating thought. Free, somehow. And pure.
