dear guy who mocked the Transformers 3 trailer

I'm with you on mocking Transformers. I was just old enough that I wasn't even into the toys and Michael Bay tends to blow stuff up willy-nilly with little regard for the audience. Your voice sounded like a retired professor and I can see how that Transformers 3 trailer might set you off. I can't remember which Transformers I sat through, but some of the robots struck me (and many others) as racist and Shia LeBeouf trying to defend the paper thin female characterization of Bay's work did actually strike me as protesting too much...

I am uncomfortable, on dozens of mindbending levels, with even the mere suggestion that Megan Fox could quit or be fired because of something referred to as "Spice Girl-empowerment" by LeBeouf. None of that explanation makes any sense and it is all terrifying. Like the allspark only terrifying.

But you quoted Shakespeare, retired professor-sounding guy who mocked the Transformers 3 trailer. You said, "Shakespeare said it best: 'Much Ado About Nothing.'" Okay, fine. I can't be certain whether your exact punctuation was a comma or a colon, but it sounded like a colon to me. And you were loud and you said it right after the Transformers 3 trailer. So you wanted everyone in the theater to hear how you felt that no less an authority than Shakespeare should be invoked to condemn Transformers 3. I'd never actually heard loud muttering before. So bravo on that too.

But then there's the rub. We were about to watch X-Men: First Class. If Transformers 3 is something that you truly want to diss loudly and proudly, you're undercutting your argument quite severely by buying a ticket to X-Men 4: The Prequel. If Transformers 3 is beneath you, I mean think about it, at the end of it all, those are fairly similar types of films, especially in terms of the "big dumb fun" of summer tentpoles. So now I'm going to spend the rest of the night trying to figure out what can get you into a theater for X-Men days after it opens but can also have you drawing some sort of line in the sand for Transformers 3. I guess it's that you loved Jane Eyre, but Fassbender alone isn't enough to distinguish the intrinsic ado about nothing nature of both X-Men 4 and Transformers 3.

I will always wonder what on Earth you meant, guy who mocked the Transformers 3 trailer, and I will never know...
