When Kurt came back to McKinley in the middle of the second semester... there were a number of things that were strange to him. First of all, Puck was trying to court Lauren Zizes. There was not a reason in the world that he could come up with to justify this, but if Puck was happy, then more power to him. There were rumors that Sam and Santana had recently had a huge fall-out, which was bizarre because Sam and Quinn were together last time he checked. Another rumor was that Quinn and Finn were together again... which didn't surprise him, if he was being honest.
The thing that was most confusing, however, was the fact that Sam kept giving him these looks, ones that he swore he used to see the boy giving Quinn. And if that wasn't confusing enough, things started to happen.

The first time it happened was a Monday, and the third time he had a semi-real conversation with Sam.
When he made his way to his locker after English, he could see a streak of white from down the hall and rolled his eyes, assuming someone had gotten a jump start on defacing his locker. As he got closer, however, he realized it wasn't paint or anything... it was a flower. Peeling the tape back from his locker, he rolled the stem between his fingers for a few moments as he tried to figure out just why there was a white rose on his locker door. And then it hit him.
Literally.
"Looks like you have a secret admirer." The playful punch to his arm made him look up to see Sam grinning, a knowing smile on his face.
"And you know who it is, don't you?" He questioned.
"Well... if I told you, that wouldn't be any fun, would it?"
"Sam, these things don't happen to me. I'd really like to know so I can think up revenge on whoever's pranking me." Kurt sighed, looking back down at the flower in his hands. It really was lovely, but there wasn't any possible way he could just come back to McKinley and magically have someone like him. Unless Karofsky was being creepy again.
"Don't second guess yourself. It's white, it means new beginnings. And honor. Just wait and see what happens, won't you?" After that cryptic message, Sam gave him another smile and walked off, shoving his hands in his pockets and moving his head to an unexpressed tune.

The second time, the gift was left on his chair in the choir room before Glee on Tuesday. There wasn't anyone else in the room, so he couldn't judge by faces who knew and who didn't, but that might have been what made it weirder. He had no idea where these flowers were coming from, and they were left in places where anyone could see them.
He picked up the pink rose from his chair just in time for some of the girls to come into the room. Brittany immediately hurried over to ooh and ahh over it, followed quickly by Santana and Rachel.
"Where did you get that?" Santana asked, a look of confusion and slight disgust crossing her face.
"It was on my seat."
"Pink roses mean admiration, you know. And appreciation. Someone obviously likes you." Rachel supplied, smiling down at the flower in a sad way that clearly meant she wished it'd been given to her. Kurt was a little put off by how she seemed to know everything, but the fact that the kept being given meanings for these flowers obviously meant someone was carefully planning this. Which also meant it couldn't be a prank.
"It's so pretty! Do you know who left it for you?" Brittany asked as she carefully stroked one of the petals between her finger and thumb.
"No idea." He ran through a list in his head of anyone he ever considered could be at least bisexual, but there was no one that he ever actually talked to. More people from the club started filing into the room, so he slipped the flower into his bag and sat down, hoping to hide it until he at least got a better idea of who it could be.

The third was a little more than bizarre. Kurt was laying on his bed Wednesday night trying to finish his French project when Finn came down the stairs, his usual stomp similar to an elephant echoing throughout the room. When he looked up, Finn was in front of him with his hands behind his back and a cheesy grin on his face.
"Hey Kurt!"
"Hello Finn," he responded, more than a little confused. Finn rarely came down to his room, and usually when he did he was sullen looking and it regarded homework.
"Whatcha up to?" Finn asked, rocking on his heels and still smiling.
Kurt raised an eyebrow in suspicion. "French homework?"
"That's cool." He answered. After a couple moments of silence, he gave an even wider smile. "Okay, I can't handle it. This is for you."
From behind his back Finn produced a bright yellow rose, very similar to the ones he'd gotten the last two days. When he stared at it in surprise and didn't take it, Finn practically thrust it in his face.
"Who told you to give this to me?"
"Not telling, that ruins the surprise. I'm supposed to tell you that yellow means happiness though. I didn't know different colored roses meant different things, did you? Well, anyway, this is supposed to mean that you make the other person happy. It's a friendship flower." Finn looked completely ecstatic by this idea, like he had no idea that friendship was not what this flower was supposed to mean. Kurt assumed he improved that last part, if only to reassure himself.
"That's... certainly something. Thank you Finn." He took the flower and sort of stared at it, as if staring at it would tell him who these flowers kept coming from. It certainly couldn't be cheap to buy so many of them.
"Don't worry so much. You find out who it is on Friday!" Even though his intentions by this sentence were probably good, they certainly weren't. Kurt was definitely going to worry now.

Thursday morning brought the fourth flower, in a more than surprising fashion. He was just trying to help Sam read the section they were doing in Biology when there was suddenly a knock on the classroom door. Their teacher got up and made her way to the door, where she revealed a guy in a tacky embellished polo and hat.
"Delivery for Kurt Hummel?" The man held out a lavendar colored flower wrapped in cellophane, a little card taped to the side. Their teacher narrowed her eyes at him disapprovingly, then took it and bid him thanks before he left.
"Be sure to arrange your romance outside of school next time, Mr. Hummel." She snapped as she tossed the flower onto his desk. He didn't even bother making a grab for it, he was in so much shock. It was one thing to be given flowers, or have them delivered by his brother in the privacy of his home. It was a completely different thing to have them delivered in class.
"Aren't you going to read that?" Sam asked, pointing to the card. Kurt shot him a questioning glance, and he shrugged. "It could be important."
Deciding that Sam was probably right, he shrugged off all the stares he was getting from everyone else in class and took the card off the cellophane, turning it over and reading the message.
Lavendar = Enchantment
You had me at first glance.
"I think it's cute."
Kurt turned back to Sam, now just a little bit frustrated. "Just tell me already, since you seem to know."
"Absolutely not, that's no fun. You should enjoy this; I know you told Mercedes the other day that you didn't care about having a boyfriend, but you might want to re-consider after all this." Sam insisted. There was something oddly serious about everything he was saying, something a litle deeper than he ever suspected Sam to be.
"Aren't you just full of wise words this week?" He questioned.
"Yeah, well, if I'm going to be dyslexic, I gotta be good at something else."
When Sam turned back to his Biology book, Kurt realized that there was obviously more to Sam. And while it was probably really unlikely, he may have secretly hoped all of this was Sam, even if it was just for a moment.

To his surprise, the newxt flower came later on in the day. I twas even more surprising who delivered it and a little irritating and now he definitely wanted to know who's bright idea this was.
"It means passion and desire." Rachel explained as she pressed an orange rose into his hand. "It's so beautiful, really. He's passionate about you, and he really wants to be with you. When he asked me to do this, I could just tell. It's obviously love, you are so lucky."
Kurt could see why whoever was doing this would choose Rachel: she was making him seem like a real catch. "So are you going to tell me who it is?"
"I'm astounded you would think so low of me. I thought we were friends." Huffing loudly, she turned and stomped off, leaving Kurt behind with more questions than before.
In the beginning of all this, he thought it was just a joke. Someone who was either messing with him or just watned to give him pretty flowers. Now that he was being given specific flowers with specific meanings and he just wanted it to be Friday so badly. The fact that someone impressed Rachel enough with all this that she wanted him to go back on their agreement that they didn't need men to be happy kind of astounded him. There was absolutely no one he could think of taht could be his secret admirer, which nearly made him want to pull his hair out. ANd he still had to wait another day.

He was nearly screaming by the end of 6th period. Kurt was on edge all day, just awiting for something to happen, but there weren't even any clues to be given. At one point he even tried asking Rachel, but she told him to be more patient and then ran away, not to be seen for the rest of the day.
Just as he was about to resign himself to never finding out, Kurt spotted Sam leaning against his locker after school.
"Feeling a little stressed?" The blonde asked him with a grin.
"Yes. Please let me access my locker, and tell your friend he's a tease."
"That's not nice. Maybe he's... nervous." Sam explained, his voice getting a bit softer.
Kurt scoffed. "Probably scared he'll be slushied or something. I don't blame him, really."
"Maybe he's afraid he's not good enough." The tone in his voice changed dramatically, and Kurt was about to ask what was going on when suddenly, the other boy brought a dark red rose out from behind his back.
"I just... I think I love you." The five words Sam practically whispered were now ringing in his ears loud and clear. When he really, truly thought about it, it all made sense.
White. Honor and new beginnings. Sam had gotten in in a fist fight with Karofsky for his honor,a nd from what he heard, Sam hadn't even been part of the conversation. He just overheard and didn't like what was going down. Kurt was back from Warbler Land, and it was almost like the duets thing didn't happen.
Pink. Admiration. After a brotherly screaming match back when Finn was still slightly homophobic, he'd said somethign about all the compliments and such sam had given Kurt for his singing. He'd heard from other people about how Sam liked that Kurt could always hold his own. The endless compliments from the blonde now all had reason.
Yellow. Happiness. Something Sam had been so full of when they were planning their duet. Something he'd completely lost when Kurt dissolved their partnership, only to find it again during the Le Jazz Hot performance. He remembered the upset look on Sam's face during his explanation of why he was flying solo... and the grin he'd had after his duet.
Lavendar. Love at first sight. The look of surprise Sam wore when Kurt had first confronted him about the duet hadn't really been surprised at all, apparently. While Kurt had found it cute that he imagined Sam never expected anyone to talk to him, Sam was actually being starstruck.
Orange. Passion and desire. When he told the club that he was transferring, Sam had been the first one to speak up. At least, the first person to say something other than 'why'? He'd sprung away from Quinn so fast at the opportunity to protect Kurt, and had been determined, even as Kurt continued to decline the offers.
It had been Sam all along, and he had been too stupid to ignore Finn and go with his gut instinct. And by the way the boy was looking at him now, he was messing up again.
"Sam..." He really had no idea what words to use. He didn't love him, of course, since he hadn't allowed himself to get to know him. But he liked Sam a lot, and could fall in love with him. Easily.
"I'm sorry." Sam sighed, catching Kurt off guard. "This was stupid."
"It wasn't." Kurt insisted, catching Sam by the wrist and taking the rose. "It's thoughtful, and clever. I love it."
Sam let out a heavy breath, finally letting a slight smile cross his face. "Believe it or not, I've been waiting quite a while to tell you this." His hands hovered over Kurt's waist, as if unable to decide if he wanted to touch. When Kurt noticed, he took a step closer to the blonde, running his fingers over the flannel of Sam's shirt as large hands grasped his hips.
"You know what you should do, right?" Kurt asked as he twisted his fingers into Sam's shirt. When Sam made a hmm? sound, he leaned in slightly. "You should prove it."
After letting out a soft laugh, Sam leaned forward and closed the rest of the distance between them.
