Lunacon, the beginning

Mar 15, 2013 18:11

Here I am in my room at the Escher Hilton. I got here quite early, so I helped set up the art show a little, and put my own pieces up. Lots of room on the table, since it's double-sided again. I could have brought the dragons after all.

The bad news: apparently the programming software crashed late last night, so they still don't have schedules. The info is up on the private website--but they didn't announce that to the panelists. I happen to have heard, from a mailing list I'm on, which is why I do know my schedule. But a lot of panelists don't, and of course none of the attendees do. So any programs scheduled for tonight are destined not to happen.

The dealers room was only half set-up by the official 5:00 opening, too. The spice lady has now arrived and was starting to set up the last time I stuck my head in; I want to be sure to buy some of her good fudge tonight before it sells out.

The hotel restaurant got *very* expensive, with a very fancy menu--made it hard for me to find anything I wanted (at prices I'm willing to pay--no $50 steaks for me!). The lobster bisque I settled on was okay but not great. I found out a bit too late that the bar has a much more reasonable menu; cheeseburgers were mentioned. So I guess that's what I'm doing for tomorrow's dinner. Unless I just order in pizza.

So everything's off to a slow and confused start.
