hybrid quilts

I have a small quilted wall hanging in the planning stages. (I may try to make it before Lunacon and squeeze it in below the bigger quilt that's almost finished.) It's going to be 12" square--or possibly 14", depending on how the fabric works.

In other words, the same size as the pillows I've been making. It occurred to me this morning that I could make it a pillow cover with a hanging sleeve on the back, so that it could be either a wall hanging or a throw pillow. For display purposes, I'd hang it with a note pointing out the pillow option (purchaser buys own pillow insert to go in, if desired).

This would actually be slightly easier (or at least faster) to make than the way I'd planned to finish a wall hanging.

But the back would be loose, only attached at the edges, so it might not hang right from a sleeve on the back. Probably wouldn't, in fact. I could put the sleeve into the top, but then it would be visible from the front.

...Drat.

I don't think this is going to work.

I could try it, and if it doesn't work, just remove the sleeve and have a regular pillow. But I don't want a plain pillow, I want a wall hanging.

Drat.
