To be honest, I blame the whole thing on my iPod. My new, only three weeks old iPod Nano. You see, yesterday I woke up earlier than normal, so I decided to do some Maths revision for the test I had today (ARGH!!! Graphs and linear equations and inequations must DIE!!!!). So I pulled out my textbook and prepared to sit in for a couple of hours of problem working. When I understand what Maths is all about, I could happily work at it all day. But my Nano froze! This was nothing short of a tragedy, because music is vital to my concentration at home. So, fuming and already beginning to suffer from music withdrawal, I stalked out to the family computer and got onto Youtube, in search of Digimon therapy.
By this time, my brother was up and about, and watching Digimon with me over my shoulder. At his suggestion, we began hunting through the internet for DVD copies of Digimon Season 1 & 2. Let me tell you, in Australia is literally IMPOSSIBLE to find. Finally we tracked down a copy of each season - unfortunately, it was from Europe, and so in Region 2, instead of the Region 4 that Australian DVD players use. So while we squabbled about whether or not it would work, the parents woke up. We appealed to them, and basically agreed that even if we bought them, they wouldn't work on our player. It was then I remembered that my old laptop (one that is useless because I locked it down with about five passwords and them forgot them ><;;;;;;;;) I was able to change the region of the DVD player on it. So I checked the player of the one that I am currently using - it didn't appear to be able to change it. To be honest, I'm not even sure if it distinguished between regions. Anyway, we finally tried the family computer, which didn't appear to have a DVD player at all! So Dad tried to install one.
He corrupted our copy of Windows. Don't ask me how.
He did manage to fix it. Eventually. But see, if my iPod hadn't frozen on me, it all never would have happened. Oh, and I broke a set of headphones by tripping over the cord, as well. That was a great four hours.
On the other hand, I have rediscovered my love for Digimon! I can't believe that I ever thought it wasn't worth getting up for (I stopped watching just after Paildramon turned up). I can squarely place the blame of Hashi, for this one. I got curious when she was spouting Digi-love at me, so I sniffed around on Youtube and found an episode to watch (Episode 21). If my parents hadn't been in the room, I would have burst into tears. Yes, Ken was a total bastard. Yes, he was cruel to all Digimon, even his own. Yes, he was completely insufferable. But I cannot describe how strong the urge to hug him was when he actually REALIZED what he had done. He was so obviously remorseful and distraught that my throat was all prickly with tears. *hugs him* He was like Darth Vader, only much, much better looking.
I've had many a 'quiet smile' moment over the... five or so hours worth of Digimon I've brought myself back up to speed on. I was a little surprised to find that I enjoyed it as much as I did when I was nine - so many other things that I've gone back to just aren't the same as they were when I was younger. I guess that it's part of growing up, but that really doesn't make it any less saddening. But at least I still have my love for Digital Monsters. As I put it to my friend this morning, who admitted to being more interested in Pokemon than Digimon, "I was always more interested in being a Digi-destined than a Pokemon Master".
Things are looking up, on the whole.
