8x02 reaction: it's looking really Pratchett....
Definitely a big thumbs-up to this season so far. The influence of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman is coming over strongly, which in my mind is an excellent thing. Wouldn't be surprised to see Death pop up again soon. I *loved* the set-up of the auction house and I think Purgatory is absolutely brilliant - what they've done with the light especially, rather than having it all dark and fiery, which would just be, ahem, Hell. The way the shafts fell on the trio at the lake was inspired.
Now criticisms. I thought they were avoiding the whole Tiger Mommy stereotype by having Kevin himself be the driven one - remember his mum's voicemail in his first appearance? It was like they changed the character from what we've heard to when we actually met her. Though as much as I love Crowley, seeing him get punched in the face upped her points with me immensely. Had it coming so long. Kind of disapointed that Kevin bolted. It made him look weak and more under his mum's thumb than we've seen so far. I mean he did survive a year by himself after Sam ditched him.
Finally: SAMANDIRIEL!I LOVE YOU! Please don't die in the next episode, but bring your lovely unrequited crush on Cas and sweet resourceful face for many more episodes. I knew I recognised him, and thanks to the ever-resourceful (and fast!) Superwiki I am informed the same actor played Matt in 1x08, Bugs (which is kind of funny if you make up a backstory about Matt changing his Alfie and running off to serve fast food. Not that I did). Also, did you get the joke? Samandiriel is an angel of fertility. His vessel works at 'Wiener Hut'. Snorf.
I actually have a lot more news but cats are harassing for meat so I'll make this fast
- liking new TA position. Scared the hell out of myself sourcing images from Funny Games for a session on violence, film and politics. If you haven't seen Funny Games, it's amazing, but horrifying.
- Bibi doing awesome. Probably healthier than me now.
- Very little in budget till end of the month, but then good paycheck. Unless I can get the 75 pounds Beeb's insurance owes me before Nov 1, I am gonna be eating a lot of rice until then.
- After nice paycheck, am going to do a foraging day with these people. One of the partner's is my housemate's friend and a lovely guy so, UK readers, if you want to organize a foraging day, there's your company!
