I've just got my Onmyoji and Onmyoji II DVD set, which are Japanese historical fantasies set at approximately the time of Murasaki. I'm not sure how historically accurate the costuming and set dressing is - the makeup is much more palatable to our 21st-century eyes than historically accurate makeup would be, for one - but it was filmed at the 19th-century recreation of the Heian palace, and the women are portrayed wearing the overlong hakama that they have to walk on, and layers of robes, and sitting behind screens. If anyone wants me to, I can take some screenshots to provide visuals to hang the Heian era on and the more knowledgeable among us can spork the costumes and setting apart XD.
And maybe soon I'll be able to get back to reading the book...
