So, I watched a lot of Without A Trace when I was younger. It's this cop show about "missing persons" who disappear/vanish/go missing and the show is about the cops who find them, usually digging up all this dirt from their past that proves they're not really the innocent person they appear to be at first, but are involved with drugs or gangs or whatever. Anyhow, the beginning of every episode starts with the person involved in a normal activity and then they just fade away. It's an imagery that stuck with me and often when I'm engaged in normal tasks I'll think, "This would be a perfect opening for Without A Trace - I'd disappear right here...".
Anyhow, I just went out to the mailbox that sits on the corner of the road right outside the office to mail some letters. As I was walking up to the mailbox, I thought, "Wouldn't this be a perfect opening for Without A Trace? With me fading away right after I drop the letters into the mailbox?". I dropped the letters in and right at that moment, a car drove up behind me and I froze as my innocent musing collided with my "worst-case-scenario" alarms and I was for a whole minute absolutely convinced that I was about to be kidnapped outside my office... Then the car drove on and I was able to move again and I walked back into the office, breathing heavily and got on Lj to rant about the evilness of my subconscious... Also, to admit ashamedly that in the midst of my sudden fear, all I did was stand there staring at the car in disbelief. I'm such an idiot, I should at least have run away!
