Heat Rises - Richard Castle

Hi! Who's read something lately but you don't have time to review it in depth? We'd all still love to know about it, if was great (or to stay away!) so I thought maybe adding a star system and a 'read it if you like...' section might help if you want to keep it brief.

I'll start with a fannish pleasure.

Title: Heat Rises
Author: Richard Castle
Genre: Action
Read it if you liked: Naked Heat, doi. And any 'whodunnit' book.
Rating: 4 out of 5
Notes: 3rd book in the Nikki Heat series

The bizarre murder of a parish priest at a New York bondage club opens Nikki Heat’s most thrilling and dangerous case so far, pitting her against New York’s most vicious drug lord, an arrogant CIA contractor, and a shadowy death squad out to gun her down. And that is just the tip of an iceberg that leads to a dark conspiracy reaching all the way to the highest level of the NYPD.

Chasing Kate Beckett around is certainly agreeing with Richard Castle because these books only get better. I'm so impressed with these, they go beyond their purpose as a tie in book for the Castle franchise and are up there with the best of them, especially this latest novel.
Fast paced and witty it reads so true to the show and their tongue in cheek humor, even going so far as to reference Malcolm Reynolds, another Nathan Fillion character.
As far as the story goes, I was always kept on my toes with the pace, the danger and the action but there was a great balance of downtime and moments between Nikki Heat and Rook.
I did struggle to keep up with all the suspects, informants, cops and their roles but by the end it was well revealed and I had the full outline of the puzzle and could pretty much connect all the middle bits in retrospect. Even though it was all explained I feel like another read through wouldn't hurt. And it wont, this book was fun!

ETA: Richard Castle has just put the Second chapter of Frozen Heat up on his Twitter.
