Last night I caught the final episode of Roseanne on Nick at Nite. I used to love Roseanne; still do. Probably watched seasons 4-7 religiously when they aired, but like the rest of the country, stopped tuning in after a while. Every now and then I watch the show on late night TV and I have a blast revisiting or seeing a new episode. I feel like the show was ahead of its time.
Anyway, the final episode: why, Roseanne, why? I was heartbroken, disappointed, shocked.
Basically the entire concept was that after season 2, when Roseanne took up writing, she fictionalized the rest of her life until the very end (when Darlene had a baby). They hadn't won the lottery, Dan really did die of a heart attack in Season 8, Becky married David not Mark, Darlene married Mark not David, and it was Roseanne's sister, not her mother, who came out as a lesbian.
It was really depressing and I think that was the "real" Roseanne's intention, albeit a really selfish one. I can understand the juxtaposition between her real life and the sitcom and the creation of an alternate reality but I think it was really unfair to do this to the fans. To me!
Okay, I'll get over it. =(
