Meant to go see Clutch tonight, but I procrastinated long enough for the tickets to sell out. Guess I wsn't as disappointed when I bought their new album at lunch. Still good, still Clutch, but it hasn't hit me like a lot of it does. I had also overbooked myself again, having agreed to do some after-hours tech-work at an ecologically-minded gift shop. Sooo I did that. In twenty minutes, did $600 worth of work and traded it for $100 in store credit at the shop, and a steak dinner where I learned dirty martinis are not bad, but not my drink. Interesting aftertaste though; the flavor disappears after a moment to come back almost stronger.
Did a little shopping, got a dyna-flex, which is this gyroscopic hand strenghtener thing (always wanted one, they're really cool), also about a dozen fruit-flavored honey straws, 3 bottles of essential oil, a bottle of massage oil, 2 bags of catnip, and a big chunk-o-soap. Smells good and is black and yellow swirled, but I can't remember what's in it..
I love the barter system, and ensuring the steady running of the cash register at an eco-hippie store is my Earth Day contribution for the year. I miss my old days of serious environmental activism. You might not have known that I used to travel to schools and give talks, demonstrate at protests and beach-clean. Even spoke at the UN once. Used to go to churches and meetings to talk to kids about having alcoholic parents. I'm a bit clumsy one-on-one sometimes, but I know how to address a crowd. I was reminded of a lot of this going through old papers and pictures I recently re-collected from my father's house.
I snarfed my beer and dropped my joint when I came across my old contest-winning essay on "Why I Want to Be Part of a Drug and Alcohol-Free America". but that's enough nostalgia,
