So, I saw the Evens this very night. About three hours ago.
And you know, that's a pretty big deal.
How much freaking charisma can one group have? You have Ian, who is just one of the coolest, most approachable people on the planet. He's telling stories in between songs, some funny, some serious(but with a sense of humor), and you really don't feel put down. And then you have Amy, who plays with confidence and somehow seems unsure at the same time. But in a really interesting way. She was the mediator. Some bands I enjoy put off an air of stand-offishness (locust, daughters, old post punk stuff) that is completely unnecessary. I mean I still enjoy those groups and realize they are aiming for a completely different goal, it just seems really little and unimportant at this time. I felt like I belonged to this band and these people in this room, which was completely different from the mood given off by the locust when I saw them play. Not that they suck or anything though.
Also, they play through their own small PA, with all the lights on and asked that the air conditioning be turned off. They also played on the ground, on top of a drum riser.
Best part still is some of the things Ian said really made Jennifer think about a lot of ideas and we had an incredible talk the whole way home about it.
I really am just ecstatic right now.
(we also both ate in the grit. at the same time. only a couple of tables apart. go vegan.)
