Guess what was waiting for me when I got to my apt last night after work. Another freaking cat. Apparently my roomate Joe decided it would be a good idea to just go ahead and get another one even though the last was a freaking disaster. I'm probably going to get a million responses from girls going "oooh! kitties are so cute! how could you not want one?" Well it's pretty easy when the entire history of your independent adult life is speckled with disasters perpetuated by pet ownership. First there was buttercup the black lab and Mike's little pup who decided to make the upstairs their personal toilet. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if the owners actually (and heres a novel idea) picked up the waste those two crap factories left behind. Then there was the evil piss-in-the-corner, attack-me-the-instant-i-fall-asleep-on-the-couch, straw-jacking orange devil Bob the cat. We were ALL happy when we realized he was missing (including Joe). Nobody put up missing cat flyers. Nobody even "kept an eye out for him" let alone actually drove around and looked for him. At least the two dogs meant well/didn't know any better. That cat was just a jerk. Its like they say, history repeats itself. Just once i'd like to get out of a rut and stay out of it (as opposed to careening back into it without even applying the brakes).
So I'm guessing the number two response (second to the afore mentioned "girl" response) is that they are just animals behaving like animals...you can't hold it against them. its who they are. how they were created. I know, and that is precisely why i choose NOT to live with them. You don't see me moving in with a litter of puppies or a den of cats and severely inconveniencing their lives do you?
anyway. this is a bad omen indeed.
well that makes two rants in a row...sorry. i promise my next post will be a positive one. perhaps it will be filled to the brim with christmas joy and seasons greetings.
oh, and if you could, please toss up a prayer for Brit...she is undergoing knee surgery as I type this. Bummer.
