It wasn't exactly a pond. Not really. It was actually a runoff pond, created by the new construction project going on nearby. With the air so cold, however, the site was deserted, which made it perfect for what was to come.
The glass of the pond was suspiciously perfect -- too perfect for natural undertakings, and zamboni were not exactly commonplace. This was because it wasn't natural. Amelia had used a spell to deep-freeze the water. Peering down at the mirrored surface, the girl could only hope she hadn't frozen the fish down there too. (For Amelia, never having heard of a runoff pond, believed that all ponds should logically have fish.)
She'd borrowed a pair of Gracia's old ice skates, stuffing the toes until they seemed to fit at least somewhat properly. Their size made her a little clumsy, but she toed her way along reasonably well enough, attempting a figure eight as she waited for others to arrive.
