Characters: Jaime Reyes and Cissie King-Jones.
Setting: Cissie's house, most likely the movies and a nice restaurant later!
Time: Sunday night, around 6:30.
Summary: It's Jaime and Cissie's 6-month anniversary! Which would be great if either of them had known they were dating.
Warnings: Hilarity and teenage awkwardness. It probably won't go above PG.

I have a girlfriend? )
"Suzanne," Her mother had sighed, thrusting a nice red halter-top dress before Cissie's hands, "Go and get ready already! I'm sure Jaime's coming at any minute ( ... )

When she opened the door, Jaime managed an awkward smile in return, waving at her hesitantly. "Thanks," he replied. Aw, man, and she was all dressed up, too? This was going to be even more uncomfortable than he'd originally thought. "You look nice, too. Oh, and these are for you," he added hastily, offering her the flowers.
And now, the real challenge. There was no way Jaime was going to kiss a stranger--he was still taken in his own universe!--so a hug would be enough to convince her that he was the Haven Jaime, right?
...Even a one-armed hug...?
The Scarab tittered in the back of his head. Most certainly laughter. Dumb alien bug, he thought bitterly. You'd think a galactic Swiss army knife would have an answer to blind dates.

Taking the flowers gently, Cissie sniffed them. "Thanks," She genuinely smiled. Something about roses - especially ones meant for her - seemed to dissolve some of her worries about this evening. -- At least, until he went in for the hug. A one-armed hug? Really?
She awkwardly hugged him in return, still holding the flowers. "I'll go ahead and give this to---" Ack, the camera flash already? Bonnie eagerly photographed the two not once, but twice. "---Mom."

--which, predictably, was disrupted by the flash of the camera in his eyes. He blinked away the spots while the Scarab assured him that only minimal damage was done to his retinas.
"Well, that's great," he muttered under his breath, rubbing at his left eye. "I'll bring Cissie home in a few hours, Ms.--"
[KING]
"--uh, Ms. King."

"Have fun, you two!" She cheerfully waved. "And don't worry, Jaime, I'll send the pictures to Bianca."
Cissie couldn't help staring at the closed door for a brief moment. Her sanctuary - her home away from home - was no more for the rest of the evening. Now? Off for what hopefully wouldn't be the most awkward date of the year.
"Um, so..." Cissie laughed nervously, fingering the straps of her red clutch purse. "I hope you booked a good place for dinner?"

Jaime pulled his phone out of his pocket to check the time. It had only been a few minutes. So much for killing time.
"Yeah! It's this really nice Italian place." He assumed as much, if that was where the other Jaime had made reservations for tonight. "You'll love it."
"...so, we should probably get going now." Jaime cast a glance at his car: at least it had been washed, presumably by him, before the date.

"Yeah," She echoed, walking slowly towards his car. Her high heels, unsurprisingly, hurt more than she'd like to let on. (But they sure looked lovely!)
Figuring that she could just enter the passenger side by herself, she slid in and put her seatbelt in. Huh. For a guy's car, it was surprisingly clean. "... Hey," She laughed for the first time that night. "You actually cleaned your car inside and out!"

Hoping that she wouldn't say anything about him not opening the door for her later on, Jaime took his seat in front of the steering wheel and started the car.
The restaurant wasn't too far away from Cissie's house, but it was far enough that he'd have the chance to actually talk to her. Maybe he'd be able to get a little information about himself that way, too.
"I can't believe it's already been six months. Remember when we first met...?"
It was a risk, sure, but he was hoping that she'd be able to give him the answer first.

Erk... he had to ask about their first meeting. Cissie tried to not panic. She honestly had no idea how they met! How would she meet someone like him, anyway?! Did they... go to the same school? (God, now she was cursing the fact that he cleaned his car: there was no incriminating evidence of teachers or tests or anything.)
"It'd be hard to forget," She finally responded, feeling horribly guilty about it the whole time. "I mean, you're a very special person to me. We've known each other for years now."
No way was she going to make something up and then have it be very blatantly rejected... but she had seen pictures of them in preschool in her room. "You know what they say! We've been friends since preschool... it was bound to happen eventually."

The pause unsettled him--had he offended her by asking? His fears were eased, though, when she finally answered. So they'd known each other for that long, then...
"You're very special to me, too," he said. "I'm glad we're together...and that we've stayed together, even through the bad times." Jaime realized how cheesy that sounded as soon as he finished saying it. He cringed a little (hopefully Cissie would think he was just feeling emotional) and pretended to be very focused on the road in order to avoid her eyes.

"Yeah," She giggled. "It's been a rough road, but we've made it so far, right?"
Okay, time for a subject change! Think of something... anything... that would hopefully set them away from the cheese and the wine that would surely follow tonight. Oh, right, the movie: movie? Were they even going to see one? Cissie laughed, "So I finally got around to seeing School of Rock like you recommended. It was actually pretty amazing."
Reply
"Right!"
Jaime was grateful for the change of subject. (At least he wasn't the one who'd have to do it.) "See, you should trust my taste in movies more often," he said with a laugh. "Maybe next time we go to the movies I'll pick."
Reply
"Oh?" Cissie raised an eyebrow, leaning back in her seat as she stared out the window. "Are you saying you should pick the movie tonight, Mr..." She paused for a second. Wait. She didn't even know the guy's last name. How awkward.
"... Mr. I-watch-too-much-sci-fi-for-my-own-good?" She finished lamely. Cissie admittedly didn't even know if the guy liked Star Trek (was it Star Wars?), but under the circumstances, it was probably best to pretend that she had a Trekkie - or a Jedi - for a boyfriend.

"Hey, you liked the last one we saw," he replied, hoping that she had actually enjoyed it. "And hey, we're here!" Thankfully, Jaime's car pulled up in front of the movie theater, saving him from fumbling through any more conversation with Cissie; plenty of parking, too.
Wow. That went NOWHERE, he thought, gnawing on the inside of his lower lip. How am I going to get through the rest of this night?
Reply
"Well, yeah," She retorted as she climbed out of his car, "but that was because the leads had good chemistry." (Did they?)
Talk about the awkward never leaving... in fact, she could've sworn that it somehow increased during the car ride. What would she do if he tried to make out during the movie? As they walked to the front of the theater to buy their tickets, Cissie stared at all the unfamiliar names. What'd be a good choice tonight...?
"I'm good with anything that isn't Eclipse."

Hm. Jaime perused the movie listings, rubbing his chin and trying to find the least romantic movie he could. Just in case she was expecting him to make a move, or something.
"Well, how about that one?" He pointed to a title. "I hear it's directed by the same guy who did The Sixth Sense. That was good."
