Adam had barely woken up. He was finally getting used to this place. To living with his-but-not-really-his mother again. To going back to college, and working part time, and just living a normal life. It was still unsettling, because he knew that he wasn't the him from this world. But now he was getting used to it. And he was liking this new life.

Then he woke up, far too wobbly on his legs, on a bed that wasn't his. And caught sight of his reflection in the mirror. He was a fricking old man! How? Why him? The fuck? He started to freak out, trying to make sense of the whole situation. Great just great, he was stuck as an old man and was on the verge of giving himself a heart attack. He made his way back to the bed to steady himself. Calming breaths, deep calming breaths. That's all that he could think of instantly, medical training flying into his head. He needed to keep calm, and not freak out, which was proving really, really hard. Distract himself somehow, or find out what happened.

"Oi, I know you don't like the air on, but you' ( ... )

The sound of a bag being stuffed into a refrigerator, the door slamming, and shoes tapped immediately down the hall. A woman emerged in the doorway, perhaps just short of thirty in age, with dark hair cropped to a somewhat choppy bob and eyes that were blue-gray, pale, set in features that bore a mingling of both Asian and European ancestry. She moved with the brisk, swift movements of one eternally in a businesslike rush . . . though her face softened somewhat at the sight of him as she paused in the doorway.

"Still in bed? That's not like you." Neither was the casualness of his tone, either, but that had registered only faintly in the back of her mind.

"It's not?" It was his immediate reply, before he could even stop himself. again the sound of his voice so rough and old, unnerved him, and it probably showed on his face. The wrinkled old face of the body he was possessing. Adam suddenly felt like a demon, or an angel. And it was a horrible feeling. One which sickened him far too much.

"Are you the family? Of this guy I mean?" He choked out as he made a weak gesture at his body to gesture what he was talking about. This was probably a stupid move, but Adam couldn't think of anything else. He was confused, and didn't know what to do. He wanted out of this body. Before he ended up accidentally damaging it. Right now. He'd been on the other side of this fence. He knew what it felt like. The poor old man he was possessing probably also wanted him out right away.

He might be able to see the reaction in her face, as though he'd reached out and slapped her cheek. Immediately her mouth hardened, pressing into a slim line, the blood pulled from her cheeks.

"All right, who are you?" The words were bit out, the syllables snapped between her teeth. "You've got five seconds."

"Adam," he replied softly feeling very much like a kid who was about to be yelled at. It was absurd, but yet he really did currently feel like a lost child. His gaze suddenly found the flooring of the room highly interesting at the moment. "I don't know how I'm like this. I just woke up this way. In his body."

She stared at him a long moment . . . then twisted and stalked out of the room. Even so, he might be able to hear her through the apartment -- particularly the train of drawn-out swear words echoing around the perimeter of the house.

Passing by the door: "Aren't you people supposed to land in the equivalent of your own bodies?"

Adam winced when he heard the swearing. Sure he did it himself when he was really pissed, but not as much as this woman. At least he liked to think so.

"I did! I was in this places' version of my body. Until today morning," he called out to her, hoping she'd hear. Adam placed his head in his hands. No, not his, he reminded himself, but this woman's grandfather. Oh good God, his nausea was rising again, and now anger too. Fucking angels! They sent him here. they were behind this. They always got their jollies out of doing things like this to people like him, and this woman.

His chest started feeling funny again and Adam started breathing deeply to try and quell his anger. It would get him nowhere in this situation. And he couldn't risk hurting this man while he was stuck in his body.

"Look I'm sorry. But I don't know what's happening here."

"Do us both a favor and clear out." Fuu emerged around the doorframe again, though she stayed in the hall. The air almost seemed to twitch around her in her agitation; her body veritably hummed with furious energy. "Get out and leave us alone!" Her voice swirled up on the last word, hurling close to breaking, then swerved away as Fuu bit it off, knifing her teeth into her lip.

"If I could, I would, alright? You think I wanna be stuck in someone elses body? Stop making it seem like my soul willingly walzted into this room and plopped itself into your grandpa's body, because it didn't, all right sweetheart?"

It was hard to keep calm, to not let his voice rise with each word. To just not panic. He looked around trying to regain his calm again. He hadn't realised how tightly he was clutching the sheets on the bed till then. His knuckles were white.

Her tone hit a sudden low note -- quiet, steady warning. "Do not call me sweetheart again."

Adam couldn't believe it. Of all the things he just said she focused on that? Seriously? Part of him, the more juvenile one, wanted to tell her that he could call her anything he liked. Or ask her if she wanted to be called darling instead.

The other part which was still stuck on the fact that she honed in on the "sweetheart" bit, made him just stare at her incredulously. "Nice to know that when someone tries to explain something to you, you focus on the more irrelevant stuff," he said dryly.

Pale eyes remained on him, unflinching. "Please, by all means. Insult the preferences of the only person around to help you." There was still anger in her; it just seethed quietly, as though caught beneath her skin. "No, I'd prefer not to help you. But seeing as you're using my grandfather at the moment, it looks like I don't have much choice."

"Help? The only thing you've done so far is yell and scream and tell me to clear out even though I told you I'm stuck. You ain't the one suffering here. Your grandfather and I am. So yes I'm allowed to comment on how you're focusing on stuff that doesn't matter while I sit here stuck. Can the self-importance."

He moved to run a hand through his hair, at least whatever was left of the old man's hair anyway, sighing. "Look my bad, I shouldn't have done that. Thing is I'm stuck, I don't know why or how. I want out of it. I'm positive your grandfather feels the same."

"No." Her voice was even. "You shouldn't have. And perhaps these things don't matter to you -- but they do to me. Self-important? This is my world, my life you're intruding in. You might not have asked for it . . . but neither did I. Don't judge what you haven't understood."

A breath as she turned away. "I know someone. One of your kind. I'll call him."

Another sigh. He hated this. "No they do matter to me. I understand you know. The intruding on someone else's life bit." And he did. Adam knew just what it was to be on the other side of things, when someone came waltzing in and turned your whole life upside down for no good reason. "I just let my anger put my foot in my mouth. Sorry about that."

His eyes lit up at the prospect of getting out of this body. "Thanks. A lot."

The hard lines of her face eased a bit. She had been harsh in turn; she recognized that. She had never admitted to being an easy person to get along with.

Occasionally, and only in the aftermath when everything was said and done, she regretted that -- even if she didn't apologize. This man was still a stranger, foreign to her, in a place where she was used to being able to let her guard down, using a power that struck deep into her core.

Head dipping in a nod, she vanished out of the room again to make a post to the network.
