Strange, how easy it was now to walk. She barely thought about it anymore. It had become instinctive, the way it always had been, and she could hardly remember what it was like not to need to put one foot in front of the other to travel. Even stairs and curbs were little trouble now.
She was starting to turn her head to look at things instead of waiting to realize her birds weren't there to look for her, and remembering what it was like to feel pain so that she didn't freeze up entirely when she suffered a paper-cut, and judging her arm's reach properly to be as short as it was now and not as long as she felt it should be.
In short, Angelicus was adjusting to her old, undistorted body, and this was what was on her mind as she made her way to the canal to meet with Amelia and Mildmay. She didn't like it. She didn't like this body. She preferred her distortions, the physical reflection of her true self. To grow away from the idea of that being normal, to grow accustomed to this form, it was disconcerting in a way she couldn't even put into words.
But as she reached the canal she tried to put all that out of her mind. There was a task to be done, and she needed to focus on that.
Besides, she had the opportunity now to meet Felix's brother for real. That should be interesting enough to keep her mind off of her own issues.
