What the hell?!
Last night I got the final two discs of Saiyuki Gunlock in the mail last night. For those who don't know, Gunlock follows the end of the Saiyuki Reload manga for the most part. That is until the last two episodes where it gets shot to hell. Now granted I haven't read the last couple Reload books but I can guarantee it doesn't suck as badly as the TV episodes did. Talk about mellow dramatic drivel.
I honestly think that the season finales of Saiyuki are getting worse each season. They start reusing past elements so it comes out the same. Yes, Hazel was different than Homura (season 2) and the "God" character (season 3) but they turned him into a cliche. It was too obvious of an answer. I would have liked for Hazel be a little more well done in many respects.
And don't get me started on the fact that there was hardly any fighting scenes in the last two episodes. This is an action anime! They had more fight scenes in the last episode in season 2 than they did in the last 4 episodes of Gunlock. I don't mind character insights because it makes them more real but the backstory on Hazel was just crap. Though I did enjoy the backstory on Gato. At least they got that one right.
