Birthdays

Ah yes, it's time for Heather's boys again. The first one of every year since 2006....

Kai Hansen born Kai Michael Hansen (Helloween/Gamma Ray/Iron Savior) 1963

The Slut of Power Metal himself. He plays with everyone ;)

This year's theme is a tribute to Kai's axes :)

To start it off, a picture from 1978. Kai was 15 in this and it's from Gentry's talent competition which they won. He's playing a white Les Paul in this. Gentry would go on to be Second Hell, then Iron Fist, and finally Helloween....

Now we speed up to 1984 for these ones. Not sure what kind of guitars he's holding in these pictures, but he didn't play them for long. This is the only time I've seen them.

There's only a few live pictures of the Helloween EP-Walls of Jericho eras, but I do know he started playing the flying-V's during it. Not ESP's yet.

Ah, the Keeper 1 era of Helloween in 1987. Enter Michael Kiske as vocalist and enter Kai's most famous guitar - the pink ESP flying-V.

And onto the Keeper 2 era of Helloween in 1988. Kai's hair gets cut and his guitars start changing....

Out of Helloween Kai goes and onto Gamma Ray in 1989. Let the Les Paul/Strat guitars begin....

Sigh No More area in 1991 and again with the Les Pauls.

Insanity & Genius/Land of the Free era 1993-96. The pink flying-v is back again. And Dirk and Kai are totally doing it during this era. Now you know why I slashed them ;)

After that it's pretty much been his pink flying-v as his main ax. Here's a few that aren't the pink one:
