Since getting my iPhone and setting up my
Last.fm profile I've been struck by how many songs and artists I've found through fan videos that I probably wouldn't have found otherwise. Exposure to new music is a great bonus to vid watching. Of course lots of the songs used in vids are ones you hear on the radio every so often, so it's not the first time I've heard the song or the only place I will ever hear it. But vidders often use music that gets no airplay at all, so I might have never heard it if I never watched the vid. If I fall in love with a vid I wind up loving the song to bits too. I get a happy rush when hearing it and will always think of the vid. So here is a lot of the music that I love that was discovered through vids and not heard anywhere else.
Gravity by Vienna Teng: Used by Koopiskeva in his
Waking Hour amv. I have never seen the anime but the amv created such a feeling of love and loss and was so beautiful that I was hooked. I loved the song so much that I had to hear everthing else she's done. She's like an interesting cross between Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos, but still unique. I love her voice and all of her music, and feel grateful to have found her.
Must Be Dreaming by Frou Frou: Used by Koopiskeva in his
Euphoria amv. I was blown away by the special effects in this vid and instantly fell in love, despite never having seen this anime before. I love this whole album, it's such a unique mix of warm and rich vocals and cool electronic beats.
Come on Closer by Jem: Used by Ally in a
Phantom of the Opera vid. I loved the sensual pop and dance groove, it's quite unique. I like her sound and listen to her other music too.
Nothing Else Matters by Apocalyptica: Used by Ally in another
Phantom of the Opera vid. It's a string cover of Metallica's song. It's deep and rich, with the melody gorgeously laid bare in all it's passion. I absolutely adore this song.
Cold and
Starless by Crossfade: Used by BluEyedDaizy in
Phantom of the Opera and
Tombraider vids. Their sound was a little hard for me at first, but after watching the vids several times I came to really like them.
One and Only by Teitur: Used by BluEyedDaizy in a
Peter Pan vid. I loved the sweet, sweet sound of the song, and the whole album is great for chilling out.
Breathe Me by Sia: Used by Ally in a heartbreaking
Phantom of the Opera vid. This song just touches my heart with it's sadness, and coupled with the Phantom just did a number on me.
Cold, Cold Water by Mirah: Used by sdwolfpup in a
Battlestar Galactica vid. I love the drama of the drums and her voice.
Angel With An Attitude by Samantha Fox: Used by Sereenie in a
Phantom of the Opera vid. It's a fun pop song that hasn't been played to death on the radio.
Wild by Poe: Used in a Tombraider 2 vid that's sadly no longer online. I love the dark and edgy sound to her voice and the beats.
Good Luck by Basement Jaxx: Used by MelanieG in a Tombraider vid that's no longer online. I enjoy the dance beat, it's just got a cool sound.
Hands To Heaven by Breathe: Used in a Phantom of the Opera vid that's no longer online. I like the romance of the soft voices and lyrics.
Underwater by Delerium: Video no longer online. Another cool dance song with sensual vocals and beats.
Breathless by The Corrs: A sweet, fun pop song that's great for singing along to.
A Thousand Years by Sting: Used in a
Lord of the Rings video by AJ Johnson called Eternal Souls (scroll down for it). The video was so good and I just loved the hypnotic world beat the song has.
So those are some of my favorite songs and artists from some of my favorite vids. And now I have to go back and watch all those awsome vids again!
