So. Le bebe is home today with a fantastically red eye. He woke up yesterday and the inner bit of his eye was a bit pinker than normal, but that's not that abnormal for him, what with allergies and tear duct issues, etc. etc. I generally have to clean his eyes every morning for him, so I'm pretty observant about any changes. I sent him to school, secure in believing him to be not-contagious and figuring that if it got red enough for them to notice, they'd call me.
Well, I know not to depend on that any more, because when I picked him up it was quite red, though still only the inner half of the eye. I started him on some Vigamox and figured he'd be better in the morning, but made contingency plans just in case. Who am I kidding? If there's the slightest possibility that my child will be sick, packaged with a 99% possibility he will be well, I can be assured that I'll be scrambling work arrangements the next day. *sigh*
I made the appointment and John brought him in. I was right, it's not contagious, but it's not a scratch or anything either, just irritation, possibly further irritated by the tubes that are due to come out in three and a half weeks (they were supposed to come out before the 4th but that got rescheduled due to vacations). On the bright side, I sent John with a couple issues to bring up to the doctor, the most important of which was the fact that his reflux is not only not better, but seems to be getting worse. She finally really listened, and so we have a prescription for Prevacid to add to the Zantac. If it works we might try phasing some or all of the Zantac out. Bonus is that it's a sublingual pill, so I think I can get him to take it properly. If not we can dissolve it and do it in the syringe pretty easily. He has an appointment with the pediatric GI in September, but I didn't want to wait that long. I hope hope hope this helps. I know this is part of his sleeping troubles, and I know how horrible my reflux was when it was undiagnosed.
And so, I leave you with this amusing snippet of conversation from our afternoon:
dababybean: I want some sherbert.
rdhdsnippet: OK, but you need to have some of your sandwich first.
dababybean: I want sherbert!
rdhdsnippet: You need to eat two pieces of sandwich.
Note: there is only a half sandwich, cut into quarters, and he has pulled those apart, so two "pieces" is only a quarter of a sandwich
dababybean: Actually... I need to eat ONE.
rdhdsnippet: No, two.
dababybean: Actually... one.
rdhdsnippet: Two.
dababybean: One.
dababybean eats two miniscule bites of a piece
dababybean: NOW I can have sherbert!
rdhdsnippet: No, you need to eat a whole piece not just bites.
dababybean, wailing: OOoohhhhh! I'll CHOKE!!!!
Am I a bad woman for laughing hysterically? :)
