I think I'd actually bid on the damn thing if I thought it would stay in the $500 range.

I need to work on my sewing skills.

OMG it's beautiful.

I actually like the theory of the dress better than the execution. The sewing is gorgeous, but the fabric choice for the outer dress leaves something to be desired (it reads to me, in the pictures, as a not particularly interesting bridal satin, and with swathes of solid material that large, I think you'd do better with a bit more texture/pattern Imagine how gorgeous it would be in a blue/gold brocade...). You'd do better with it in another color anyway. And, since it's a pattern adaptation (and I think I know _which_ pattern, or at least could point you towards a very similar one) making it yourself, over time, is not inconceivable. If you started with a well made, appropriately shaped corset, it actually wouldn't be bad at all. Time-consuming, yes, but even with buying the corset you could certainly do it for $500 dollars and in a nicer fabric (amazon drygoods sells an appropriately shaped corset kit for around $200 I think). I would bet money that at least 40 hours of the time spent on the dress was spent on making the corset, and another 10-15 on perfecting the finishes. Which is beautiful. But for most people, not necessary. As a) they won't be living in the dress and b) they will not be pouring over every individual stitch.

::perk:: You know what pattern? Someday if/when I have the time I'd be willing to make it without the boning just to say I did. (I'd probably make it for sylfae just 'cause she is so cute in dress-ups.)

Ok, I cry uncle. Point us at the pattern. :)

Actually, I think you're right about a lot of that, including the fabric choice. It would also be much nicer in a true Burgundy.

I'd be perfectly happy to live in the dress! *lol* I'm weird that way though. And living in the wrong century entirely. Though with my luck I'd have been a scullery maid or something anyway. :)
