Today...
was so NICE. Almost 80 degrees! I actually FINALLY got to start resining. Mostly as a test, to see how well the process worked. And it went very well for the most part. I worked on 2 shoulder pieces for the Samara costume, and the 2 handplates for the Halo armor. I haven't fiberglasses the inner part yet (just resined the outside), but they seem to be nice hardened. I'll probably do the fiber glassing, then do another layer over the whole thing to make sure its good to go.
Overall, I think I should mix less of the resin next time. I ended up with a lot left over and it just... hardened up so it was a bit of a waste. I also need to buy some acetone to clean my brushes. I bought a cheap set to wreck, but acetone supposedly can clean resin off them, and I'd rather not have to buy new brushes after every use. I also don't know if my respirator was working properly. I was in a very well ventilated place (in the garage next to the open door... and it was windy), but I could still smell the fumes a bit through the respirator. And for some reason my safety goggles smelled like purple (you know... like "grape" flavor).
I also did a couple tests with acrylic paint. One to see how it would hold up on oily skin, and the other to see if would be a good "casting" medium. The skin test ended up having a bit too much wear and tear to "look good", but I think using the acrylic to make the tiara and necklace might work rather well. I bought some clay that should be arriving tomorrow so I can make the molds soon.
As for the body suit... I'm trying to get the chest-part in order, but I'm having a hard time motivating myself to work on it. Hopefully I'll get most of it done tonight while I'm still feeling crafty.
Yesterday, I picked up my dress for Karen's wedding. It fits and holds... certain areas well for being a a strapless dress. I also went out with the fam to celebrate Emily's birthday. Andrea and Jason stopped by for a drink, but everyone ended up leaving around 11.
It's been a nice weekend. It's amazing how warm weather makes me so happy. :)
