And just when I thought no one was a risktaker any more...
Apparently even darling Hugh's loveliness cannot stop rabid geeks from pirating material at Comic-Con. Someone finally leaked the preview for "Wolverine." Do not look if you want to remain completely in the dark until you see an actual trailer or the movie and don't know anything about which characters or actors are going to be in it (basically... if you haven't been paying attention to anything I've posted about this movie here in the past year or so...)
Really, they give you everything you've been craving to satisfy that burning curiosity. I sort of expected this, I'm mostly just excited about finally seeing the design elements and actors in character/costume here...
1. First part, yeah, it's all Wolvie vs. Sabey. Drama, how-the-eff-are-you-still-alive?!!moments. The usual. And anything with Hugh Jackman as Wolvie is immediately made of win.
2. I think it's nice how they made up Liev Schriever as Sabertooth very similar to Wolvie. Muttonchops and the like... And then at the end there, whoa nelly! Looked totally scary.
3. Circus-y bits, w/ Kevin Durand (that dick soldier guy from "Lost") as The Blob (AKA Fred Dukes). Looks like they did amazing with the prosthetics for making him all huge and fat. Minus the stupid hair, he makes a good Blob.
4. One little thing that bugged me was, and this is a concern I have for every comic-book flick, is how much they trying to live up to the comics, and giving over to much to action instead of keeping a good and coherent story. Mind you, I'm also hoping they don't rush it, 'cuz Wolvie has 100+ years of history to get through and there's a good chance things might get botched. Hugh stated that they're just trying to focus on him as a kid/when he manifests his powers, and the basic story of him getting in with Weapon X and getting to the point where he is at the start of the first X-Men movie... so hopefully they'll just stick with that, and not meander into any of the Japanese Samurai Logan stuff... The trailer shows a lot of action, and yeah, it hints at story, but it seemed like, besides the main voice-over of Stryker, all we get is action. Mind you, that's how most trailers are. And Ironman, and ESPECIALLY The Dark Knight turned out to load in the characters, keep in good with an excellent story, and are just all-around awesome!
6. Okay, here comes the big one. Gambit. Heehee. At first, I only sat the first part, which just showed a flash of Taylor Kitsch all close up. I was a little disappointed. Gambit-tho-he-looks, his eyes were you're basic normal, brown eyes. Then I saw part 2, and DAMN! They show cards flying, and he's WEARING A PURPLE SHIRT. Awesome. Magenta is not purple, but it's damn close enough HA! Then it shows a flash of him throwing cards and his eyes flash red as he does. Cool! That, I can accept. There's also a clip or two of him in a long coat jumping around with a bo staff and slamming the ground. Yesss..... Ahem. (Why do I suddenly get this horrible feeling they're going to kill him off just when he's finally brought in...?!?!?!)
7. And then, I have to add, there is a flash of Ryan Reynolds with two-Katana swords (methinks they're working Deadpool into the circus by the looks of him). He's not scarred up, but he's wearing a plain, red Gi (alas, still boyish, no face hair...), sort of similar to his comic outfit, so one can only imagine how Weapon X is going to eff him up by the end of the movie (will no-one break the fourth wall?!) judging by the hints dropped in Stryker's narration (yay for mutilation of gorgeous men ...O.o;;; First there was James Franco in Spidey 3, then Aaron, so Ryan's next!)
8. And of course it ends with the dramatic Wolvie threatens Sabey. Classic, but cliche. We know where this is going (and, heh, how it will end, even if Wolvie doesn't actually *remember*)
Overall thoughts? Looks cool, will probably be fun and entertaining AND a summer blockbuster, BUT I still have my reservations. It'll probably end up as just another comic book, summer movie. But, as long as I have a Gambit, plus Hugh and Ryan, I'll be a happy-camper. My fav chara, and two of my top ten sexy mens will do it every time :D
