Vacay!
Today makes the, like, 854th day of below freezing temperatures, and it's starting to get old. The news people say it'll get up into the mid to upper 30s today, but they're all liars.
stinky_monky and I are taking the week off, and it's been a good vacation so far (despite the cold). We spent Saturday lounging except for a wander around the Short North to check out Christmas decorations and to see what exactly those tiny stores actually sell. Yesterday we drove to Amish country and found a bunch of antique shops (with a lot of random books and metal contraptions that reminded us both of growing up in the 1970s and 1980s [well, it reminded me of growing up in the 1970s anyway]) and touristy-type gift shops for the most part. We saw two Amish buggies driving along the road, though, and an Amish furniture store, which made the whole trip worthwhile. Today I finished up my Christmas shopping and we're going to head to a fancy lunch soon.
We saw Milk on Sunday, which is an excellent movie but it really made me miss San Francisco. The hills, the weather, the Golden Gate, the insane MUNI drivers... I have fully accepted that fact that I might never find a teaching job in California, but I really wouldn't mind being back within driving distance of The City. It's just a cool place.
