I am discovering that the best way to sniff out the overachieving students in my classes is to assign a map quiz.  I gave them a study guide last week with a list of about 30 locations and then picked 15 of those for the quiz yesterday.  The overachievers finished early, of course, and then filled in the places that I did not choose to test them on

*raises hand* Yeah, I was one of those students. I mean, if I had to know them anyway... I never really saw myself as an overachiever, but I suppose the data cannot be ignored. OH, or they could be obsessive-compulsive which explains my behavior much better. ;)

I gotta admit that I did it a few times in college too. The OCD explanation works for me too.
