SPACE OPERA!
Last night I went to NYC, and I got to see Nancy Upton and Sean Patterson!
Then I went to see the Wooster Group put on La Didone, which is a 1641 Italian Baroque opera about the love affair of Aeneas and Dido. Here's the catch: they layered the opera into a 1960s Italian sci-fi film known as Planet of the Vampires! It was awesome! They were in silver space suits and hunted the boar with lasers!
It was only a dress rehearsal because in a few weeks they leave to tour in Luxembourg and Portugal, so they did a lot of stopping and starting, and I only saw some fragments of it, but BOY am I going to see the full show when it comes back for its March engagement at St. Anne's! It was so rad; I love space opera!
